Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD)
Dr. Sejal Dharia Patel and Dr. Frank Riggall talk about Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnostic Testing or PGD. This technology allows us to sample the embryonic material through a biopsy and then test that material for a particular genetic disease. There are two types of tests, those that screen for abnormal chromosome numbers and then those that look for specific gene problems such as Tay-Sachs, Huntington’s, Sickle Cell, or Hemophilia. Someone interested in this type of testing may have previously suffered from recurrent miscarriages, multiple unsuccessful, unexplained IVF cycles, or advance maternal age.
