CRM : Center For Reproductive Medicine

One of the assisted reproductive technologies available at the Center for Reproductive Medicine is in vitro fertilization with egg donation. This allows women who do not have viable eggs to become pregnant, give birth, and even breastfeed their children. CRM screens and matches young women with our donor egg patients in Orlando, Florida, saving our patients the extra trouble and potential cost of working through an outside agency.

CRM is proud to be a partner program with My Egg Bank of North America (MEB), providing a comprehensive database of vitrified oocytes.

Indications for Egg Donation 
In order to be accepted to our donor egg program at CRM, a woman must have a condition that prevents her from using her own eggs for in vitro fertilization. Among the most common reasons for using donor eggs are premature ovarian failure and low ovarian reserve. IVF with egg donation may also be an option for a woman who carries a severe genetic disease and wants to prevent any possibility of passing the disease on to her child.

The IVF Process with Donor Eggs

For the patient, the experience of donor egg IVF is similar to a frozen embryo transfer cycle, in that the patient undergoes treatment with hormones to prepare the uterine lining, monitoring and embryo transfer, but not ovulation induction or egg retrieval. However, there are several steps that take place prior to the actual IVF cycle that are more or less unique to the donor egg process.

• Screening and Matching
  Egg donors are thoroughly screened for any medical and psychological factors that may jeopardize the success of the procedure or the health of the donor, mother, or infant. Likewise, donor egg patients must be examined to be sure that they are physically and mentally able to participate in the program.

  Donors and recipients are matched primarily according to medical criteria, but certain physical attributes, such as hair or eye color, can be requested by the patient.

• Cycle Synchronization
  In order to collect eggs from the donor and transfer resulting embryos to the recipient, the two women's cycles must be in close synchronization. For this reason, medications may be given for one or two preparation cycles before the donor egg IVF cycle begins.

• In Vitro Fertilization
  While the donor is receiving fertility medications to stimulate her ovaries, the recipient will continue to be monitored regularly. After the eggs are collected and fertilized with the recipient's husband's sperm, one to three embryos will be transferred to the recipient's uterus. Any remaining donor egg embryos can be cryopreserved.
